LR trainees Jil Heuser and Christopher Oelssner do an internship in Poland

Ahlen, September 10th 2018, “Very interesting and definitely a great experience!” This is the conclusion drawn by Jil Heuser (21) and Christopher Oelßner (23), who are both in their third year of training at LR, upon their return from their international internship. The future industrial clerks each spent 4 weeks at the LR subsidiary in Katowice, Poland, during the period between the beginning of August until Mid-September 2018.

Jil Heuser says: “Our Polish colleagues were very friendly and open. Also in our leisure time: One highlight was our joint dinner in a traditional Polish restaurant to which our colleagues had invited us.” There were no communication problems: “In the areas in which we were deployed – warehouse, service and sales support – all colleagues spoke English very well,” Christopher Oelßner adds. Both agree: “We have gained a better understanding of the independence of our subsidiary in Poland and the connection with the headquarters in Ahlen.

The internship took place within the context of the European project “Erasmus+”, a pan-European, subsidised education programme and was organised by the Erasmus+ team at the Ahlen vocational college in the district of Warendorf European School.

The trainees receive a scholarship for the duration of their stay abroad. But LR offered even further support: “Comprehensive training of young people is a matter of heart for us. We are happy to lay the foundations if our trainees wish to broaden their horizon with an internship, especially abroad. This is why our trainees are released from their duties at full pay for four weeks for such an internship. LR also covers the travel expenses,” says Andreas Friesch, CEO and Management Spokesman of LR.

Travel and accommodation were organised by the up-and-coming talents themselves. “Participation is voluntary, and we support independence in general,” says Pia Klüter, HR Manager and Head of Training. However, LR advocates for placement in one of their subsidiaries. “This ensures that we can coordinate the educational contents during the internship period with the partner abroad. In addition to the experience abroad, this also creates a work-related learning effect,” adds Pia Klüter, who also started her career as trainee at LR.
